About this Course

This two day course is designed to provide an understanding of the design and technology behind the IBM BladeCenter systems and related components. Focus starts on the chassis, blades, power and cooling elements. Next is Systems Management using the Advanced Management Module with remote hands on labs providing the support and management common to all BladeCenter Chassis. The architecture and interfaces common to the Blade Server family along with specific elements by processor group and expansion blades is discussed. Ethernet, storage connectivity and their related options is presented with remote hands on labs. Installation and problem determination strategies are explained and discussed.

Audience Profile

This is an intermediate course for individuals involved in the planning, installation, configuration, and upgrading of the IBM BladeCenter.

At Course Completion

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe each major BladeCenter chassis component and supporting infrastructure
  • Perform chassis management through the Advanced Management Module
  • Explain the major blade server components and interfaces to the BladeCenter
  • Describe the Fiber Channel and Ethernet I/O module functions and interfaces
  • Perform command line and Web interface management of Ethernet I/O modules
  • Understand BladeCenter installation recommendations and practices
  • Perform basic problem diagnostics and resolution
