About this Course
This course will cover 10 days of classes. Six Sigma Black Belt as the result of a completion of steps that provide in-depth training and demonstration of the utilization of the tools and methodologies of Six Sigma.
The student will have the opportunity to be Certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt by Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Charlie Slaven, if the student:
- Successfully completes the required training program consisting of four five-day training sessions, each followed by three weeks of approved project work
- Your selected project must be pre-approved by your employer and partner faculty
- Successfully achieves an overall average of 70% or higher on the weekly quizzes
- Successfully attains a score of 70% or higher on the final examination
- Successfully completes one project that includes validated data from your company attesting to the targeted savings from this project
- Submits the project report to partner for evaluation no later than the agreed upon date
- The Project will be evaluated on the savings realized (in dollars) and the effective use of Six Sigma tools to achieve your result
- If there are deficiencies in the project report, partner will make every effort to help you correct them
- If you did not use all of the Six Sigma tools, you will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of them
- If all of these requirements are fulfilled, you will receive a Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate of Achievement stating that you are an Oriel / MAX Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Workshop
Again, based on the standard Oriel Black Belt curriculum, this workshop shall be a two-part workshop and shall build on the foundation established by the Green Belt workshop. The workshop shall focus on studying the Design-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) model in detail and on developing advanced Lean Six Sigma process skills as well as managing and implementing improvement projects. Participants shall learn the skills required to identify, evaluate, select, and manage a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project. The students will receive a full copy of the statistical software Minitab, which will be used heavily in this workshop.

Prerequisites
Participants who will attend this workshop will be those who have previously and successfully completed the Green Belt workshop and have received their Green Belt certification. A Green Belt Certification prior to attending this course is a mandatory prerequisite.
Course Outline
Black Belt Workshop - Week 1
Topics to be covered shall include
- Advanced Lean Six Sigma Concepts
- Lean Six Sigma Assessments
- Black Belt Project Selection
- Introduction to Minitab and graphical analysis
- Implementation of advanced process control strategies and statistical process control
Workshop assignments and exercises shall include
- Tool application exercises
- Case Study exercises
Upon completion of week 1 of these workshop participants shall be able to
- Select and train team leaders and team members
- Select relevant Black Belt Six Sigma projects
- Develop a Lean Six Sigma project implementation plan
- Critically review and assess Green and Black Belt projects
- Prepare and provide guidance for management presentations
Project Review
A project review meeting will be conducted the third week after the completion of each Black Belt Workshop, part 1.
- The project review process will be spread across several days, depending on the number of students.
- The purpose of the project review is to analyze each students progress and provide assistance as needed to prepare the student for the part 2 Black Belt Workshop.
- The instructor who taught the workshop will conduct the project review meeting.
Black Belt Workshop - Week 2
The Black Belt workshop, part 2, shall be conducted four-six weeks after completion of the part 1 workshop. This will allow participants the time needed to apply the tools and concepts learned in part 1 to their own project.
Topics to be covered shall include
- Advanced process improvement strategies
- Design of experiments
- Design for lean six sigma
- Review of Black Belt qualification projects
Workshop assignments and exercises shall include
- Case study exercises
- Lean Six Sigma tool application exercises
Upon completion of this workshop, participants shall, be able to
- Provide advice and guidance on Green Belt projects
- Plan and manage lean six sigma projects
- Perform advanced statistical and data analyses
- Implement process controls and improvement procedures
Notes
- A Six Sigma lean project will be an integral part of the Black Belt workshop and the Black Belt certification process.
- Projects selected shall be real time and selected from the participants on-going mission requirements.
- Each participant is required to use the tools taught in the workshop when completing their project.
- Partner shall certify each participant as a Six Sigma Black Belt upon successful completion of the workshops and 2 Six Sigma Lean projects (1 from their Green Belt training and 1 from their Black Belt training)
- Please refer to the certification guidelines above.
- Partner shall provide audio lectures, practice quizzes, case studies, additional homework assignments, and mentoring support to all participants who are receiving the Black Belt certification.
- Support shall be available for six months after the start of each workshop.
